For weeks now, I have been plagued by a vague but recurring dream.

In it, there is always a village, with people who come to a cave, where they are met by some sort of priest, who they treat with deference and respect. Among the villagers, there is always a child.

At some point, the child is sent to leave the villagers, and joins the priest, who leads them into the cave.

Time passes in the dream, and the villagers approach again, this time with a new child. The priest is there, but the previous child is nowhere to be seen.

I feel a sense of dread for the fate of these children.

Note: This dream started sometime after the Knights of the Sable Dragon retook Blakavar. Many things happened that weekend which could be connected. The events that seem most memorable and most likely to be involved are:
  • Causing a mudslide to fill in a nest of Aspis who had been trying to abduct Count Kovaks
  • Re-activating ancient magical machinery that powered everything from a forge to a dragon egg hatchery
  • Disturbing and partially destroying a nest of vampires
  • Cutting off a Mind Flayer from its hive mind and destroying it
  • Rescuing the egg of the Sable Dragon from some lizards
  • Generally, helping to reactivate a clearly magical land
