I got this from a rather vocal to-Rani. I thought I had sent it to folk that would disseminate the information, but I guess they or the pigdens' got lost on the way.:

"Two years ago, Pathos was given great powers defeating the Great Dragon. He gained control over the Umbra, its creatures and was a master of all known magic. This kind of knowledge cannot be held by a mere mortal and for all Pathos was, he was just mortal. He was able to control it, however because HIS soul was taken by a Vole. More specifically, the Vole controlled most of his actions and also the power within him. When she was destroyed by Gonf, Pathos still did not have a soul, but he was in total control of his senses again, and all the power of the Umbra. For these reasons, the power could not kill him, but it kept him in a state of total madness.
"In order to stave off the madness and bleed some of the power away from himself, he needed to Link with people. Linking is an old form of magic which, by touch alone, allows a caster to use the Life force of another to amplify the caster's health and augment the caster's power. The maximum people a caster can Link to at any time is seven. Using all his will, he was able to give himself brief moments of lucidity, which he used to send out creatures to find seven of the twenty servants he had been using as spies. These people came willingly, thinking he was going to give them "a great gift", sometimes it was power, others wealth, beauty. What he gave them was pain.
"He touched each one and using the Link, bled off fractions of the power that ravaged his body. Very quickly, he had bled enough away so as to be in complete control of himself and could call upon the powers at will. Knowing (Page 1 finished)

that people in the Realms would eventually try to find them, he put the servants' bodies and souls into various objects both in the Realms and in the Umbra so they would be difficult to find.
"The downside of Linking is that, over time, only one Life Force will remain and it is usually the caster. Pathos knew this too and knew that if they even missed one of the servants, he would be able to dominate that one person's body and if he was killed, his spirit would live on in the other body.
"When Pathos was destroyed, he had all only partially consumed their life force. Although he is dead, he still lives on inside each one of them. That dark seed mixes with the power he bled off into them and over time will come to bloom s a new evil, not entirely Pathos, but just as evil.
"Each plague is the result of Pathos' soul mixing with the power/madness he bled off into the servant, plus whatever is left of the servant. The first madness is the carnal desire of hunger. The evil mixes with this to create a plague that makes sure the Realms will stay hungry. The second madness is similar to the second but more dire; Famine. The evil mixes and wants to finish the job the first plague was unable to do. The third madness is Fear. Mixing with the evil, it will make sure anyone still alive will die in their darkest fears. The fourth is Hatred. Again, mixing with evil, it will burn all living creatures, be they plants or animals.
"The fifth is Vengeance. This one is particularly nasty. Pathos went to Things Forgotten, where Lelmok sends the soul it consumes and struck a deal with the Goddess of Knowledge. The result is a combination of Pathos, the Goddess and the Servant who will go after she that killed her and anyone else that helped her. The Sixth is Murder and is the most dangerous of any of them. When released, she will be an invisible force who will consume the soul of any she encounters. the seventh is Insanity. Not much is known about what is going to happen with him, but it is said the most trustworthy of you will betray you all and it will be his doing. His focus is to make sure the evil stays alive.
"Time is of the essence. The more time that passes, the more they grow in strength and evil. Each plague will stay in their given madness or "play by the rules" until destroyed, even after reaching full evil potential. The key given to Zeek by the Guardians of Time is to make sure this evil is destroyed for good. Secure them body and soul in the sword, then cast the power and madness into the collapsing Umbra and seal it." (Page 2 finished)
"That's about all I know."

Skein writes:

Also,
I have been working in Rhiassa, alone, for some time. While my body has
adapted to the cold, and to the constant strain of casting healing magics
through the circle graciously provided by Morgil's goddess' intervention, I
am supposed to be walking to fill the skin. If I cannot walk, then some
should come to me. If you value what I do at all, and do not wish me to
discontinue, I unfortunately must require some attention. Preferably
someone who will not mind my forced adaptations, appearance, or previous
existance. Or someone who can attend to the circle for several days in a
row, so that I may walk and return.
Though I would prefer the first, as I find comfort in helping, the
second is acceptable - though in walking, I may not return if I walk to where
I will be filled...
I am sorry I cannot make my request any clearer - basically, I am lonely, and
need some companionship. No, I am not in heat and require no such attention.
If Zeek, Pedreic, Nathanial, Meg, Keirnan, Drakkus, Gabriel, Brynne or
Kerigan are available, I would like to see any or all of them. If not, any
company will do.
