Prophecy of Valkyrie Ritual

Amawar with Stealths Embrace to protect them from scrying and Vindicator in their hands, heads to a quiet part of the field under a tree.

She sits quietly against the tree and prays.

"Sentinels on high, I need your help. We seek to find a means to break the grasp of the Demon Prince from his Wraiths so that we can redeem them if possible. We were told that it would be possible to adjust the Valkyrie ritual to do this, but we don't know how.

"So I humbly ask that you aid me in understanding this process. And grant me the gift of prophecy.

Amawar lays Vindicator across their lap and with one hand upon the blade and another holding a scrying orb they cast their spell.

"Sentinels on high, watchers of all. Grant me the gift of Prophecy so that I may see the process by which the Valkyrie ritual may be modified such that it will give us an opportunity to redeem the Wraiths instead of utterly destroying them."

Her eyes glow white with divinatory power and she released the spell.

(( Prophecy with Stealths Embrace to block all scrying/divining on their actions and using Vindicator as the focus to channel their magic.

You feel the glow of Sentinel presence course through the sword directly into your mind. Karavynn speaks.

"Amawar! The Sentinels came, they came right to you! I am glad you might be able to save a few of the Wraiths. I'm so happy the people of the Realms did it for me."

A Sentinel voice speaks. "Look upon the events that led to our champion's release."

Throughout a bloodied forest, the adventurers of the Realms battle against various foes, some of which are Wraiths, one of which is the Dark Wraith wielding the longsword - their target. They kill it twenty times, by matching weapons, by sacrificing the magic of some. The last time, it stays down, its soul separated from its form.

The heroes quickly perform a summoning ritual using spy glasses they had collected on a quest into Karavynn's past and identity.

She manifests next to the sword they had been given, as if holding it, resplendent in shining armor and pure white raiment. She appears as she had been when first empowered by the Sentinels' gift, shortly before her corruption.

Her spirit enters the sword, and her light spreads into it and radiates out in tendrils of shining virtue, her new name emblazoning itself on the blade: Vindicator.

The Sentinel voice speaks again serenely in your mind:

"The significance of the sword was that it had been meant for her to wield in the first place. She was meant to be a celestial warrior. We cannot say if a weapon would be the best vessel for any of the others.

"The Valkyrie ritual that interests you is a creation of your realm. It imbues a person with the power to defeat the Dark Wraiths, as they are agents of the forces of darkness. We were not yet watching at any time it was done in the past. Perhaps as you summon the Valkyrie you could make clear in your summoning that you wish to invoke a creature for damage rather than destruction.

"There may also be strategy as to which of you the Valkyrie inhabits. Whether the spirit takes over the person, or if they'd have some control over the power they now wield, may be hinted at in your world's Story of Aeryn.

"Perhaps your Valkyrie could swing with intent to attack the corruption itself, or the shell, rather than the creature entire. Karavynn was freed with many deaths dealt in rapid succession. It may be that your Valkyrie would need to do the same, although it also may be that a single blow will fell the Wraith with the first strike.

"We are not certain if any ritual without combat would sever a Wraith's ties to Nemesis while it still lives, as serves as 'living' to them. But it is clear you can sever the soul from the Wraith, with violence at the least.

"However, as with mortal souls, its destination and fate are out of your hands unless summoned. You summon mortal souls by calling them to reconnect with what they find familiar, meaningful - their own body. Karavynn was called with a ritual that summoned her to her own familiar and meaningful identity.

"From observing the last time you redeemed a Dark Wraith, it would seem that the soul must be severed from the 'body,' but then it is unknown whether without intervention the soul would slowly re-enter its dark host, or be lost. Perhaps the soul would be redeemed at that point, but we have reason to believe it would not be free, as Karavynn felt she could have been called back by Nemesis if the heroes had not intervened. Karavynne was summoned at the moment of separation with personal artifacts, and was provided an appropriate conduit to steer her spirit to a new place of existence. That is all we have seen."

You sense the Sentinel presence withdraw, and you are left with Karavynn's young voice in your mind.

"I hope you will be careful Amawar, I would not want you or any of your friends to fall to the darkness."
